"Shadow of a Mountain" by VIR (Rock Artist from San Francisco, California(CA))

"Shadow of a Mountain" by VIR is a dreamy and melodic shoegaze-style alternative rock album that features good songwriting and an innovative, experimental sound. The influence of early new wave punk is well represented in VIR's sound, but they bring it to you in their own original way. These guys are pretty edgy and aren't afraid to take chances. There is an ever-present, grounding rawness to the sound, and the power-packed melodies will entertain your ears. The vocal performances are excellent, with a great vulnerable quality that lies underneath a strong voice. The lyrics are interesting as well, displaying a lingual sense while tugging at your emotions. "Shadow of a Mountain" is very well-recorded and maintains a nice analog quality. Highlights include "Wake Up Son," with excellent layering of guitar sounds and cool effects. "The Kicker" features a great vocal performance, progressive rhythm, and nice melodies. "Montana" wraps things up nicely with an atonal progression and an overall broodiness. If you enjoy experimental, modern sounds combined with a new wave, shoegaze sound, "Shadow of a Mountain" will be right up your alley.

"Slam Dunk" is an awakening opener with a larger than life intro that gives you a first glimpse at the talents of the artist and a nice transition into a funked-out musical journey. The recording quality of this album is true to its east coast punk roots, so don't expect a slick, overproduced sound. "The Big Fat Pet Clams From Outer Space" opens with "I Used to Listen to the Radio," a quirky little reggae number filled with self-destructive humor and pleasant humming. "It's Time For Love" by Marvin Webb (Spiritual Artist from San Francisco, California(CA))

"It's Time For Love" is a self-proclaimed rhythm & gospel live album from Minister Marvin Webb. His smooth r&b vocals are reminiscent of Marvin Gaye and Tedy Pendergrass, and together with lyrics of praise and worship, Minister Webb has crafted an inspiring contemporary gospel album. His lyrics criticize the social side of the secular world. He sings about violence and poor conditions within many communities, and politically, about the long battle for peace in the Middle East, lifting the words up and putting them in the hands of the nonsecular world. The recording quality of "It's Time For Love" is also quite good, with few traces that it is a live recording. That said, it still manages to make you feel as though you are in a house of worship. "Simon Peter" takes one of the most memorable of Jesus' prophecies and compares the audience to Simon Peter himself, inferring our imperfections and God's forgiveness. "Get Your Praise On" is a great funk gospel track with a great arrangement filled with funky lead guitar, hand claps, and a nice group vocal. Overall, "It's Time For Love" is an effective album that discusses contemporary issues and the value of praising God within each of them. Fans of contemporary gospel and worship songs prepare. Minister Webb is about to show you what rhythm & gospel is all about.

"Felicia" by Felicia Punzo (Electronica Artist from Pennsylvania(PA))

"Felicia" is the five-song electro pop debut EP from fifteen year old phenom Felicia Punzo. Prepare to hear about Felicia for years upon years to come, as her smooth and clean vocal performance puts her in the same vein as Miley Cyrus and early Madonna. Suffice to say, she has mainstream written all over her. This EP is filled with great electro and hip-hop beats that, even if dared, you couldn't sit still to. Felicia writes her own lyrics, which is more than you can say about most young pop sensations. She sings about love and lost love, including one particularly heartfelt song, "Angel," which is about a young friend of hers that passed on. The recording quality is excellent and ready for club play, or to be cranked up at a house dance party. "Do It Anyway You Wanna" has a nice electro beat and a great use of synthesizers, showing Felicia's minimalist side. "Love of a Lifetime" is a more lyrical track ready for radio play that is sure to make you marvel at Felicia's maturity level considering her age. Overall, "Felicia" is an impressive debut from a young new artist sure to consistently make her way to the radio waves. This is the ninth solo release from Stevens, and this album shows his musical experience and maturity, as well as his knowledge of world music as a whole. The complete sound of his arrangements are derived from funk, rock, reggae, electronic, and new age as well. The songs are diverse, rhythmic, and true to the Clive Stevens sound. The result is twelve upbeat and rhythmic tracks about the importance of Jesus in our day to day existence and the necessity of putting one's life into God's hands. It sounds very clean and makes you feel as though you are in a Caribbean tent revival. "Caribbean Gospel Medley" defines Caribbean gospel perfectly with an attention-getting beat, great vocal layering, and lyrics about redemption. The title track, "New Life," is an Elvis-esque southern gospel track with great booming doo-**** vocals from Errol, more great vocal layering, and a classic arrangement. "Long Way To Morning" is a true-to-its-roots rock album from Finnish outfit The boots. This album is filled with great rock arrangements from a set of tight and experienced musicians who nicely incorporate progressive and blues elements into their sound. The electric guitar drives the entire album, with great riffs and solos alike, splicing themselves throughout and solidifying the sound. Their influences draw from the '60s, '70s, and '80s from the likes of The Beatles, The Doors, Electric Light Orchestra, and a variety of rhythm 'n blues pioneers. "Three" by Ken Macy (Blues Artist from Massachusetts(MA))

"Three" is a soulful blues-rock EP from talented multi-instrumentalist Ken Macy. Macy lays down the vocals and all of the guitar work on this EP and with the assistance of Kevin Haverty on drums, he has crafted some great blues-rock tracks. His pitch is that of a tenor, making for a unique and memorable vocal performance, though the soulfulness of his voice and the content of his songs are similar to Eric Clapton's style of blues. "Three" is filled with tender harmonies and songs about love and heartbreak, dreams and drinking. This EP was also self-produced by Macy, giving him the final say-so on the overall sound. The result is something to take pride in, both as a musician and as a producer. "Out Of My Life" is a song of heartbreak, of good times and bad times and putting a situation out of his hands. Look for a great rhythmic blues sound in this one in particular. "Queen-Bee" features Dave Kurdzionak on the saxophone, great metaphoric lyrics, and is a great collaboration of intermittent sax solos and the underlying blues arrangement. Overall, "Three" is a great EP with a unique, soulful vocal and an intense blues-rock feel that would make for an non-regrettable addition to any collection.
