“Please Call Me, Sanjaya!” by Jackson Garrett (Pop Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

Jackson Garrett's "Please Call Me, Sanjaya!" is a blend of a wide variety of musical styles, moods, and influences. This release showcases Garrett's ability to be comfortable and shine in any genre, including blues, jazz, rock, pop, and even Latin-oriented styles. This album is all about versatility, from the Brazilian flavor of "The Wedding Samba" and "Let It Burn," to the straightforward rock of "Champagne Tower." The instrumentation also varies, with the appropriately titled "Cool And Easy" featuring the subtlety of brushes on the drums and a soprano sax providing a melodic solo. This is a well-produced release, focused on creating memorable songs that are easy to listen to. Other notable moments include the catchy, Steely Dan-influenced pop of "You Can't Do That," the funky horn section of "Messin' With The Kid," and the fun swagger of "Easy Strut." If you enjoy easy listening vocals in the jazz-rock style, this album is worth checking out.

“Surround Sound Offensive” by MYTHOS / Stephan Kaske (Electronica Artist from Germany)

One listen to Berlin electronica group Mythos' "Surround Sound Offensive" will change the way you listen to music forever. Mythos frontman Stephan Kaske has composed an incredible, artistic instrumental album that gives a new meaning to fullness of sound. Self-produced by Kaske in Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound, "Surround Sound Offensive" constantly has a variety of sounds going in different places at the same time that artfully come together as a compositional whole. These instrumentals, minimalistically labeled "S.S.O.-1" through "S.S.O.-11" are excellently crafted, well-layered, catchy, and unique. These songs are, by nature, best when listened to loudly on a surround sound system, and the album is meant to be listened to from beginning to end, as an artistic whole. "S.S.O.-2" has an '80s feel to it with a great beat and a full sound that brings lots of different sounds together. "S.S.O.-8" has a lot of spacey ambience going, more great beats, and excellent instrumental layering with well-timed fades and dueling instrumentation. "Surround Sound Offensive" is an electronica masterpiece filled with amazing, full instrumentation that fills the canvas with Kaske's artistic expression. Fans of electronica, and anyone with a surround sound system are going to want to pick this one up.

“Soft As Granite” by Janine Santana (Jazz Artist from Colorado(CO))

"Soft As Granite" is a lively Latin-jazz release from Janine Santana that combines traditional and authentic Afro-Cuban rhythms with mainstream jazz and elements of funk to create a exceptional, vibrant sound. The musicianship is of the highest order, with great horn solos and bebop lines floating on top of Santana's rhythmic and intricate percussion patterns. Listen to "Close Your Eyes" for spirited vocals, great horn section arrangements, and a soaring trumpet solo. Even on the calmer tracks such as "Dignificada," the intense passion is still there, with Santana's percussion providing many textures and colors over rhythmic piano and horn figures. One bright spot is a clever arrangement and fiery interpretation of Freddie Hubbard's classic "Red Clay". The production is clear and crisp throughout, with every instrument having a distinctive place in the mix. Another definite highlight of this collection is an incredibly funky rendition of "Big Brother" by Steve Wonder. This is a particularly respectful version, with the style and vocals revealing a mysterious resemblance to the original artist. This album features a unique blend of the traditional folkloric Afro-Cuban rhythms with the more contemporary styles of Mainstream Jazz and Funk, and is highly recommended for any fan of Afro-Cuban music or Latin-jazz.

British Columbia multi-instrumentalist Monty Casper plays all of the instruments on this album, showing his tremendous piano talent, as well as his crafty work on drums, guitar, and horns. "A Band In Your Dreams" is the debut album from Pennsylvania indie rock outfit Marsiglia. Marsiglia blends bluesy riffs, blistering guitar solos, toe-tapping drum beats, and unique poppy vocals to create a great college rock sound that fuses together a number of influences. The arrangements are tight, drawing from both classic and modern rock sounds. Similarly, the vocal performance has nice variety to it, and Marsiglia as a whole can sound like Incubus, Rage Against the Machine, and Kings of Leon, as well as an array of classic rock artists. The songs are fast-paced and in-your-face, very creative, with great hooks and catchy lyrics. "A Band In Your Dreams" is well-produced and the instrumentation and vocals sound clean and balanced. "Past the Point" begins with ambience, then slowly builds into a great arrangement with excellent lead and rhythm guitar work, a nice beat, and is lyrical and catchy. "Love of the Game" and the closer, "Heavy Water," stand out as slower paced tracks with more diverse arrangements, inserting the piano and cello, respectively, into the songs to accompany the great, memorable lyrics. “The Knight” by Khan Manuel (Rock Artist from Australia)

"The Knight" is the excellent instrumental debut from Australian guitar virtuoso Khan Manuel. Like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai before him, Manuel uses the classic rock sound as the basis for his compositions. The first three tracks on this album – "The Knight," "Down 'n' Dirty," and "Space Travel" – exploit this passion with blistering guitar solos and perfect, clean execution. Manuel is versatile though, and he knows how to control the guitar to unfalteringly change harmony or tempo and to make the guitar cry, as he does in the emotive "Now And Forever." "The Knight" is well-produced, bringing Manuel's guitar work to the forefront, and ready to be turned up loud. "Flamenco Nights" begins with ambience and Latin guitar, then continues with great Flamenco-style guitar work, hand claps, and a nice groove. "Midnight Jazz" couples a nice drum beat with great mellow jazz guitar work. Khan Manuel is an excellent guitarist, well-trained, and a hidden talent that deserves to be discovered. "Crows" is a great four-track EP that nicely fuses folk with alt-country from New Jersey singer/songwriter James Moore. Drawing from a variety of influences, Moore creatively and skillfully blends slide guitar with great folk guitar work, great guitar and drum rhythms, and sincere lyrics. At his vocal best, Moore sounds like Jim James from My Morning Jacket, but he has such a range that he is also reminiscent of David Gray. The title track, "Crows," has a nice acoustic and drum arrangement, a superb Jim James-esque delivery from Moore, and great lyrics. "One Way To You" is the type of song you might sway to at a concert, holding a lighter high in the air and features a great vocal delivery and heartfelt lyrics against a slow acoustic progression. “Leaving Israel” by Jenni Thompson (Classical Piano Artist from United Kingdom)

"Leaving Israel" is the debut single from UK composer/arranger Jenni Thompson. Although she is primarily a jazz vocalist and violinist, Thompson shows off her talents as a pianist and, more precisely, as a classical pianist on the track. The single is an original composition written just after a life-changing trip Thompson took to Israel in the summer of 2007. The song begins slowly but quickly moves into a beautiful and haunting build. Thompson pays attention to the entire piano as she keeps the rhythm with the lower keys whilst playing a sweet progression with the higher keys. The song befits the music and would be a perfect soundtrack to a scene in a film where someone is looking sentimentally out of a window while flying away from Israel, or anywhere really. "Leaving Israel" is well-recorded, and Thompson's piano work sounds clean and professional. Though only one track, "Leaving Israel" reveals Jenni Thompson's talents as a composer/arranger and pianist to the world, leaving you eagerly awaiting what her debut full-length, "A Portrait of Jenni," will have to offer. “Jazz Mass” by Jim Duff (Jazz Artist from Canada)

"Jazz Mass" is a truly unique album from the mastermind of composer/arranger Jim Duff that juxtaposes and fuses a symphonic orchestra, a big band, and a choir to create brilliant classical and jazz compositions. Duff amassed fifty-five of Newfoundland's finest musical talents, drawing mainly from the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble, but also showcasing sprouted talents from in and around the community. The result is, guaranteed, something you have never heard before in your life. The fantastic vocals of the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble can stand alone like in a chamber choir or accompany the big band and classical sounds of the Orchestra, then halt for a traditional jazz composition with a sax solo. It can be sudden and contrast moods, but it is excellent, and probably for that reason. "Jazz Mass" is well-produced, and all of the diverse sounds are recorded to their utmost quality. "Gloria" well combines the chamber choir, big band orchestra, and jazz ensemble with great booming vocals that sing the chorus of the traditional hymn, and then moves into a fusion of horns with the traditional jazz sound that features a mean saxophone solo. "Beatus" begins with a great vocal performance from the Vocal Ensemble as they sing about the "Be" attitudes and then moves into a great jazz song with piano, drums, and xylophone. Jim Duff has composed and arranged a beautiful, incredibly original "Jazz Mass" that is sure to be admired by anyone who respects well-crafted music. Fans of big band, jazz, and excellent vocal ensembles will be interested to find out what this "Jazz Mass" is really all about.

Guitarist Richie Bean, drummer Susan Costa, and bassist George Burton performed on and produced the entire album, skillfully jumping between and combining Americana, rock, alt-country, blues, honky tonk, and surf rock genres. The entire album features nice musical layering, excellently crafted guitar solos from Bean, and great toe-tapping beats from Costa. The vocals are consistent with the genres and reminiscent of classic artists like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Neil Young, and Canned Heat, adding a certain timelessness to their sound. The lyrics vary as well, from dark lyrics about death and exacting revenge to sappy love ballads to just plain fun upbeat songs about living. The Catillacs self-produced "Meow Mix," and it sounds excellent and professionally done. "Boogaloo" is a great introductory track with a fun upbeat voodoo blues sound, a great hook, and superb guitar work. "True Love Figurine" is a Chicago blues track with a New Orleans flavor that features great storytelling lyrics and a great blues arrangement. “Stars to Sail By” by Shelby Nelson (Pop/Rock Artist from Ontario, Canada)

"Stars to Sail By" is an impressive British pop rock album from singer/songwriter Shelby Nelson. This album is organic by nature and combines an acoustic sound with electric, and elements of electronic. Put it all together and the album displays a great musical layering with the ambience often complimenting the solid arrangements. What's more is that Nelson plays all of the instruments on the album, so you also have the pleasure of appreciating the talents of a multi-talented individual. “Filamentary Dreams Of The Cedars” by Mokyo Octet (World Artist from Japan)

"Filamentary Dreams Of The Cedars" is the superb instrumental world fusion debut from the Mokyo Octet. Now a four-piece, all of the instrumentations and compositions on this particular album can be attributed to composer/oudist/guitarist Paul N. Dorosh. With "Filamentary Dreams Of The Cedars," Dorosh has crafted seven excellent and uniquely organic tracks that combine traditional Middle Eastern oud, which is a variation on a lute, with modern guitars and electronica beats. The resulting sound varies from track to track, some sounding like jazz fusion and others merely juxtaposing the traditional Middle Eastern sound with modern electronica. It all sounds excellent, and the recording quality really captures Dorosh's careful musical layering. "Running, Sightless" is aptly titled since it features frantic and excellent oud work and displays Dorosh's talent both as a composer and an oudist. "Crustacean" closes out the album nicely with a great jazz fusion track with acoustic guitar and Dorosh's oud work resembling that of a jazz bass line. "Filamentary Dreams Of The Cedars" is an exceptional debut from Mokyo Quartet that leaves you eager to hear what the now-expanded group will put out next. Fans of Middle Eastern music and world fusion should certainly look into this album.

“A Bucket of Joy” by Charlie Vaughn & the Daily Routine (Pop/Rock from California (CA))

"A Bucket of Joy" is a great college rock album with elements of alt-country, folk, blues, and pop rock from Charlie Vaughn & the Daily Routine. This group is fully capable of jumping from genre to genre without losing the fullness and solidity of their sound, delivering great melodic arrangements with nice guitar work in an experimental gem with "Where the Hell is Frank?" Charlie Vaughn's vocals are clean with a great range, and he sounds like a mix between Ryan Adams and John Mayer. The lyrics are great from the beginning when Vaughn sings "Tom left town like a broken jaw," and the rest of the album is filled with excellent storytelling and imagery through Vaughn's intelligent and socially aware song writing. The production quality for "A Bucket of Joy" is great for the sound the band is trying to create, in that it nicely combines a clean recording with their raw sound. "Bad Habits" is a nice blues rock track with a catchy hook, a great arrangement featuring solid guitar work and hand claps, clean vocals, and a catchy chorus. "I Hope My Mother Wasn't Wrong" is an antiwar track that begins with a stripped down acoustic guitar and drum sound, then moves into a great alt-country arrangement, and features thought-provoking lyrics throughout. Overall, "A Bucket of Joy" is, well, a bucket of joy that should be given a whirl by any college rock fan.

“I've Got Joy" by Errol and Kaye Leslie (Reggae Artist from Florida(FL))

Jamaica natives Errol and Kaye Leslie are at it again with their outstanding gospel reggae anthems on "I've Got Joy." Combining the southern gospel tradition with upbeat Caribbean rhythms and island beats, Errol and Kaye sing about the importance of Jesus in the world today in a very unique and uplifting way. The energizing arrangements and excellent vocal dynamics, with Errol's booming bass and Kaye's more gospel-oriented alto, take the serious lyrics and somehow turn them into songs that you want to put on a Hawaiian shirt and dance to. Go ahead and try lifting your hand to the sky and sadly wavering back and forth; it's impossible. "I've Got Joy" is well-recorded and the arrangements and vocals alike sound clean and professional. The title track, "I've Got Joy," is a song about the grace and love of Jesus and the joy that it brings and features Errol and Kaye's great vocal dynamics, rhyming lyrics, and a rhythmic horn, drum, and guitar arrangement. "Holy, Holy, Holy" appears to combine a more Caribbean version of Ace of Base's "I Saw the Sign" with the traditional hymn with a vocal performance led by Errol's booming voice. "I've Got Joy" is an excellent and unique album that makes worship fun and even danceable. Fans of gospel reggae or those searching for good music with a Christian message should definitely check out Errol and Kaye Leslie.

"Pictures Of You" by The Romeo Flynns (Rock Artist from Michigan(MI))

"Pictures Of You" is a brit rock influenced Detroit rock album brought to you by authentic Motor City rockers The Romeo Flynns. The combination of these styles is nothing less than electric. The sound is, of course, heavily guitar driven, with thick beats, big choruses and an arena mentality. This album is a definite party package, with 13 solid speaker pumping tracks - frills and overproduction not included. There is also a subtle element of 50's rebel rock present, which supports an already angst-filled sound. The album is well produced, sounds great, and really lends itself to the "loudness" of the sound. The title track "Pictures Of You" gets the album going with a bang and really defines the Brit/Detroit rock fusion. "Gonna Feel Alright" features that 50's element and will absolutely rock your world with a huge chorus and additional support from horns, keys and organ. "Just Fade Away" is another highlight, with a quirky 80's guitar riff and a strong melodic chorus that will most certainly drive the ladies wild. If you like Detroit Rock, Brit Rock and the huge sound that comes with it, give "Pictures Of You" a spin. You won't be disappointed.

"Footprints in New York" by Kaoru Azuma (Jazz Artist from Japan)

"Footprints in New York" by Kaoru Azuma is a fantastic modern jazz album brought to life by a talented jazz vocalist. Kaoru, though born in Osaka, Japan, has honed her craft as an American singer and will leave you feeling musically satisfied and pleasantly soothed. She has certainly made her way around the New York jazz scene and her experience and poise shines through on her smooth, graceful vocal performances. The musicians behind her are certainly no slouches either. The performances are solid and the arrangements are creative, lively, well-layered, and compliment the vocals well. The album is well-produced, reflecting a perfect balance of instrumentation and vocals, and illuminates a sound that is very crisp and smooth. "High Wire" opens things up with a haunting vocal intro and evolves into an upbeat performance, both in the arrangement and in the vocal performance. "Footprints" invokes images of a smoky, low-lit room and features a great tandem between Kaoru's voice and the trombone. This track is fantastically heavy on the mood. "Turn Out The Stars" wraps things up with nice piano progressions that gives the hint of closure and an intimate vocal performance from Kaoru. This album will leave any lover of crafty and soul-filled modern jazz wanting more.

The owner of Lullaby Babies and mastermind of the album, Richard Jenkinson, is responsible for all of the sounds on this album, and the product is extraordinary. Incorporating sound effects, children's voices, whistles, hand claps, harmonica, and piano into the arrangements, Manilla Green provide melodic, incredibly catchy toe-tapping songs you'll find yourself singing along to. “Contemporary Country Classics, Volume 3” by Distillery Dave (Country Artist from Ohio(OH))

"Contemporary Country Classics, Volume 3" is the third installment of singer/professor Distillery Dave's covers of classic country songs that bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary country music. Distillery Dave fashions his sound with crooning vocals at once similar to Conway Twitty and George Strait and layered arrangements with piano, steel guitar, violin, and great backing female vocals. Many of these elements are true to the traditional country form, through Dave adds modern elements with contemporary arrangements and rock-influenced guitar solos. The lyrics these classics offer are timeless, witty and clever, often adding an aura of humor to otherwise sad songs about love and heartbreak, loneliness and drinking. The production quality of "Contemporary Country Classics, Volume 3" sounds great and professional, simultaneously true to the traditional and modern country sounds. "Somebody's Needin' Somebody" opens the album with a song popularized by Conway Twitty featuring that subtle interplay of witty humor and sadness, great vocal layering and backing female vocals, and a catchy chorus. "That's the Way Love Goes" is a song about finding and keeping love popularized by Merle Haggard that invokes cliché images of luckiness – horseshoes, rainbows, four-leaf clovers. Overall, "Contemporary Country Classics, Volume 3" is a solid and enjoyable album that takes country classics and intelligently refashions them to combine traditional country music with contemporary country music. Fans of either of these genres interested in witnessing their interplay should give Distillery Dave a listen.

Though occasionally coupled with an excellent female vocalist, Hagfors is the lead vocalist and, true to the fusion of genres, sounds like a mixture of Tom Petty, The Weakerthans, and Wilco. The song titles infer a certain witty humor in the lyrics and do not disappoint. Showing his musical maturity, Hagfors is capable of juxtaposing the humorous with the serious, from biting heads off of microphones to falling off a cliff at Big Sur. "Hey Revolution Now!" is well-recorded with an overall sound great for the genres. "Jfk Loved Volvos Too" is a well-composed acoustic song about Hagfors' 1961 Volvo with a humorous chorus and great male/female duo vocals. "Bring You Back With a Song" is a sadder love song and a ballad of sorts with great hopeful lyrics. The title track, "Hey Revolution Now!" follows this up with a fun political track with the group chorus, "Hey revolution now/ Make peace with the holy cow." With "Hey Revolution Now!" Home Groan has crafted an excellent, musically mature album with intelligent, memorable lyrics and wonderful backing arrangements. Fans of alt-country and folk rock, pick up this album now!

“Raising the Roof!” by Tom Principato (Rock Artist from Virginia (VA))

"Raising the Roof!" is an excellent, guitar-driven blues rock album with elements of funk, r&b, and New Orleans blues/jazz stylings from Tom Principato Band. Principato has been playing guitar for over forty years, and he shows his mastery of the instrument with unbelievable guitar work on every track. A few of the songs are instrumental, allowing Principato and his guitar to take center stage in bluesy jams accompanied by Hammond organ, great bass lines, drums, and occasional horns. Principato's vocals are reminiscent of the blues rock gods before him, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn, and his overall musicianship is just as incredible. His songwriting skills are also admirable, as he can write fun lyrics about creole queens and other New Orleans themes, or blues-oriented songs about lost love and lies. "Raising the Roof!" is well-recorded and has a clean and professional sound. "Lock and Key" introduces the album nicely with a New Orleans style track with great guitar work and horns. "Bo Bo's Groove" is a fun jam track with a great funk bass line, excellent guitar solos, and an overall grooving arrangement. Tom Principato and his backing band have delivered with astonishing guitar work, great blues jams, and a nice meshing of lyrics. Fans of blues rock, whether you've been listening to Principato for forty years or you just heard of him today, "Raising the Roof!" will not disappoint.
