"Light and Darkness" by Ivan Valentini (Jazz artist from Italy)

"Light and Darkness" by Ivan Valentini is a fresh contemporary jazz album that gives your body and mind a workout. The arrangements are unique, mixing traditional Jazz elements with "outside the box" type soloing. The vibe of the album is very mystical and a bit haunting. There is intense and nicely restrained power about it. The album is also packed full of great performances. The musicians are truly top notch. The clarity of the recording is excellent, allowing the instruments to clearly cut through in the recording. Highlights are "Sottane Emiliane" with harrowing strings, eerie Sax and obscure changes. "Linda's Mood" is gorgeously dark and cinematic, with an offbeat rhythm and beautiful strings. "Riflessi di Viloa" is upbeat and driving, with some great guitar, string and Sax work. If you like experimental jazz and listening to musicians who are masters of their instruments, you should pick up a copy of this CD.

"Being Visited" by Lo Galluccio (Pop artist from New York City, New York (NY))

"Being Visited" by Lo Galluccio is an avante-garge pop album full of delightful oddity. Lo has a wonderful voice and her mixed styles of delivery – both spoken and sung – is delightfully unique. This CD's sound draws from many genres and regions, and stretches the boundaries of traditional pop. Lo's seductive vocals are certainly the centerpiece of these tunes. Also adding to the appeal of this album are some cool harmonies, overlaying of verses, and general weirdness. Moreover, the arrangements take their appropriate place behind Lo's captivating vocals, and successfully accentuate the mood of each song. Highlights include "Black Sun," which flaunts an intense vocal performance and some good tabla work. The cover of "You Go to My Head" is ambiently jazzy, with a powerful build and sultry vocals. "Being Visited" is a spoken-word piece with otherworldly lyrics, nice vocal layers and an array of haunting instruments. If you like Bjork and Patty Smith, you'll like this one.

“Changes” by Robert Payne (Jazz artist from South Africa)

"Changes" by Robert Payne is a jazz CD that demonstrate's Robert's exceptional talent and versatility. Taking center stage on this CD is Rober's virtuoso jazz piano skills. Robert nicely changes his style on different tracks throughout the CD. Regardless of the style, his piano work makes for great listening. The production and recording quality are excellent, allowing the outstanding individual instrumental work to cut through the recording clearly. This is truly a rare experience. Each instrument is nicely highlighted in the recording, for instance the flute in "Satisfy your Soul." The Sax solo in "Diminished Dreams" pulls and draws energy from the surrounding drums and keyboard. The piano work displayed in "Realization" is exquisite and followed in that selection by an impressive sax solo. "Nothing But Love" by Sal Belloise (Pop artist from Florida (FL))

"Nothing But Love" by Sal Belloise is a blues driven acoustic rock album with a great live/raw quality to it. Sal's vocal performances are the big factor in achieving this sound as they are very clear and nicely produced. The instruments all have a great "Room" sound and the arrangements and lyrics are creative. Throw all of these factors together and you get an album that sounds like it was recorded in a coffee shop....but in a good way. The acoustic guitar work on the CD is impressive. Highlights include the title track "Nothing But Love," which has a catchy chorus, a standout bass line and some nice harmony in the vocals. "Wonderful Day" has some intricacy to it with tricky rhythms and changes, yet it is very listenable. Great blues riff too. "Wave of Life" has another awesome blues riff and more good vocal harmony. It's hard not to turn up the volume when listening to this band jamming on these tracks. The vocals are excellent for this genre. The emotional vocals draws the listener to the lyrics without overpowering the strength of the instrumental work. "Ring Tone Nation" by Lloyd Page (Electronic artist from Ohio (OH))

"Ring Tone Nation" by Lloyd Page is a collection of 98 eclectic electronic ringtones. Suffice to say, you get a lot to choose from here. The sound is ethereal and ringy (in a chime-like sense). If you are looking for some "out there," spacy sounds for your phone, you have reached your destination with this album. Although a common sound is shared, each track is distinct. Lloyd also makes an effort to cater to what level of "ring awareness" you want your phone to have in his arrangements, meaning there are subtle rings as well as attention getting rings. We liked "Larvel Accel," a twisty rise and fall synth guitar creation. "Chimed RT" is a delay fused chime piece. "Lioz" is a delightfully confused airy guitar synth alarm. If you are looking for some cool ringtones, pick this up.

"In Transition" by SRM (Electronic artist from Texas (TX))

"In Transition" by SRM is creative collection of psychedelic ambient electronic tracks with a sense of humor. Combined with the strangeness are jazz and adult contemporary elements that make this album pretty unique. The sound is very "Classic 80's" both in the choice of synths and arrangements. There is a nice tug-of war between intensity and relaxation throughout the album. It works well. As a track ends and a new one begins, you have no idea what you are getting. Highlights are "Fishfin" with a wonderfully monotonous bass line, subtle intense synth strings and a few other cool ambient elements. "Really Cheesy Theater Theme" is so out of place that it works, with its hokey beat and surf guitar. "Jasper Did Once, But He Don't Do No More" has a tricky little beat and keeps you on your toes. If you enjoy finding creative ambient electronic music, you'll enjoy this CD.

"Harvest Moon" by The Woodhouse Band (Folk Artist from Virginia(VA))

"Harvest Moon" by The Woodhouse Band is a collection of instrumental songs inspired by traditional Celtic and Americana. The band features a lineup of classic instruments including fiddle, banjo and bass box. The combination of the two styles works well for this group. It's a nice variance to the "down home" vibe that the two styles possess. The musicians are all great players and each song has lots of life to it. The quality of the recording is very analog and lends itself to the timelessness of the sound. Highlights include "Off to California," a fiddle and guitar duo that puts you right on board the covered wagon. "St. Louis Blues" features some nice, pleasant piano work and retains the "down home" vibe. "The Star of the Country Down" has a heroic quality to it and is another fiddle and guitar duo. If you like Irish Folk, you'll enjoy this one.

"All Night Through" by The Shaker Sisters (Country Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

"All Night Through" by The Shaker Sisters is a high energy country pop album featuring two gorgeous voices and a lively band behind them. There is also a folk element to the make-up of the sound, as the Sisters' voices lend themselves well to it. Above all you can't ignore the attitude. Picture how it would be if Thelma and Louise sang in a band. The harmonies throughout the CD are very effective. Musically the band is superior. The rhythm section is solid and there is some nice fiddle work throughout. Highlights are the title track "All Night Through," which encompasses all elements of the sound and gets the party started. "You Can't Change Me" features some quirky lyrics and is a testament to the frustrations of dealing with men. "The Key" slows things down a bit and has some nice harmony in the vocals. If you like Dixie Chicks, you'll enjoy this excellent CD.

"Best of Romantic Songs" by Reimano (Pop Artist from Germany)

"Best of Romantic Songs" by Reimano is a classical guitar album brought to you by a very accomplished German guitarist. His influences definitely cannot be pinned down to one style or genre. It is Latin guitar for the most part, although you will hear classical, rock as well as blues elements. The musicianship is of professional quality and Reimano's guitar sounds fantastic. The arrangements are unique and the use of a rock organ at times adds a cool dimension to the sound. Highlights include "Aiysha," with an intro arrangement that keeps your ears at attention as it moves into a thing of beauty. "White Flag" is haunting, with an intimate intro and interesting synths. "Scubacoustic" wraps things up nicely with more intimacy and edgy synths. If you enjoy beautiful classical guitar music, you will enjoy this CD.

"Acantilado" by Xavier Losada (Classical Artist from Venezuela)

"Acantilado" by Xavier Losada is a creative CD of experimental Chamber and Avant Garde music. It features 8 themes, 4 mastered and 4 remastered. It is a highly cinematic album, but in a minimalist way. The arrangements are certainly "out there" and will challenge your ears. Lots of tonal piano lines and progressions mixed with eerie sounds and some ethnic instruments. The quality of sound is quite good and attention was paid to every detail. Highlights include "La Calma," which is the lead-off track and lets you know right away what you are in store for as it fades in with faint gong strikes, followed by a promise filled piano line that eventually moves into a dark place. "La Meurte de Emp'edolces" features many unique ethnic sounds (rainsticks, digerdoos, etc...) and has a curious Tuba arrangement. If you like experimental classical music, you'll enjoy this inventive CD.

Musically the album is, of course, highly ambient. The synths combined with delicate piano lines start the process and maintain it as the soft female voice guides you through the auditory journey. The production quality of this album is good and it certainly achieves the correct mood and is well thought out in its purpose. The album features one track with narration and a second track without. It's a nice option to have, catering to whatever mood you may be in. So, if you are looking to find your way into a peaceful and relaxed state, give this CD a listen.

There is definitely a heavy R&B influence present throughout the album that creates a nice flowing undertone. Rubix's delivery is slick, with a rough undertone and yet soulful at times. Highlights are "On Fire" with a solid beat, a little wackiness in the vocals and a funktastic bass line."I Wanna Hold You" is a spacey love song that will help turn up the heat in any room. You'll hear some guitars buzzin' from time to time. It's a fun ride, for sure. "Judgement Day" leads things off with heavy guitars and a big Southern attitude. Another notable is "Temptation," moving from a traditional blues riff into an "walk in the clouds" feel with heavenly female backups. "Compli-Intricated Life" by Michael Dyer (Adult Rock artist from Los Angeles, California (CA))

"Compli-Intricated Life" by Michael Dyer is an alternative soft rock album that takes an inventive look at love and relationships. It is certainly original, as it combines wavy soft elements with bassy vocals, wailing guitar solos and a strong indie-influence. Michael's lyrics have a nice flow to them and are quite clever. The album opens with "Alphabet Soup Love," which features lyrics that tell a story of betrayal based on....you guessed it....the letters floating in a bowl of alphabet soup. Tackling the topic of regret, "If I Could Undo" introduces a bit of a Latin flair in its guitar progression, and exhibits some nice instrumental changes. "Ethereal Night" exudes these same qualities, along with a danceable beat and more of an inspirational feel. If you like Death Cab for Cutie, you'll like this one.

“Play to Win” by K. Osgood (Pop artist from New York (NY))

"Play to Win" features the unique vocal style of K. Osgood. Upon listening to this CD you will see that Ms. Osgood is not afraid to challenge conventional pop/rock styles, in delivering a unique style not only in terms of her soft and at times, falsetto, vocal style, but also in the instrumentation and production of the CD. The reverberated vocal production and soft instrumentation provide a mysterious element to the tracks of this CD. The lyrics are creative and sensitive showing a clear depth of feeling and strong emotion. "Give it Up" is one of our favorite tracks, with a strong loose snare groove that feature some interesting guitar and keyboard sounds, and a cathcy harmonized chorus. There is an interesting and clear, spoken and sung selection called "Sleep to Dream" that is a very good representation of this artists talents with clear and articulate verbalization. The final track, "Crazy Day," conclude the CD in a very update and positive note. This CD is full of variety, emotion, and creativity, and is worth your attention if you want to move away from formulaic commercial radio pop/rock to hear the innovative work of a creative artist.
